Z-axis built into the body.
Dolly-grade smoothness handheld.
Most gimbals stabilise three axes. Ronin 4D adds a fourth — the Z-axis arm with 130mm of vertical travel — that absorbs the bounce of walking and running. Combined with visual sensors and ActiveTrack Pro, the result is footage that previously required a Steadicam, dolly, or stabilisation gimbal on a vehicle mount.
24.1 MP.
6K/60p, 4K/120p ProRes.
35mm full-frame CMOS sensor with 24.1 MP effective resolution. Internal recording in Apple ProRes RAW, ProRes 4444 XQ, ProRes 422 HQ/LT, and H.264. 6K/60fps and 4K/120fps in full-frame mode. ACES workflow supported throughout. EI 200-12800 with dual native ISO 800/5000 — practical headroom for low-light interior cinematography.
Clear to ND512.
Motorised internal switching.
Nine internal physical ND filters from Clear through ND2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, to ND512. Motorised switching directly from the main monitor — no swapping mattes, no time lost on set. Under direct sun at T2.0 you stay in shutter angle without external glass.
43,200 ranging points.
Autofocus on manual lenses.
The included LiDAR Range Finder casts 43,200 ranging points across the frame, enabling phase-accurate autofocus on manual cinema lenses with a Zenmuse X9 Focus Motor attached. Automated Manual Focus mode rotates the focus wheel in sync — pick up manual control whenever you want without the LiDAR releasing the subject. ActiveTrack Pro recognises faces, heads, shoulders, and limbs.
6 km range.
1080p/60 to two monitors.
Built-in DJI O3 Pro Video Transmission — same wireless backbone DJI uses on cinema drones. 6km transmission distance (FCC), 1080p/60 video, 100ms or 68ms end-to-end latency, DFS frequency band support for ground-shoot interference resilience. One transmitter feeds up to two High-Bright Remote Monitors simultaneously. Master Wheels and Force Pro compatible for remote operation.
DL native.
L, M, E, PL via adapters.
DL mount native — six DJI DL primes (18mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm) and the DL PZ 17-28mm T3.0 zoom available. Interchangeable mount system supports Leica L, Leica M, Sony E, and ARRI PL via third-party mount units. Use existing cinema glass collections rather than committing to DL-only. Honest caveat: DL lineup is proprietary and limited — if your set is built around Sony G Master or Canon RF cinema lenses, plan for the third-party mount.
PROSSD or CFexpress.
Dual-channel stereo built-in.
Three storage options: DJI PROSSD 1TB (no recording-format restriction), CFexpress 2.0 Type B, and USB-C SSD. Built-in 2-channel stereo microphone records LPCM 24-bit 48kHz. 3.5mm TRS input supports plug-in power and line inputs; 3.5mm output for monitoring. HDMI Type-A 2.0 output, USB 3.1 Type-C data, and 6-pin 1B DC-IN (12-30V) round out the I/O.

Need to know.
6K vs 8K — which combo makes sense?+
Pick 6K if your delivery target is 4K UHD or 6K. The X9-6K supports the full ProRes ladder (RAW, 4444 XQ, 422 HQ, 422 LT) and has a wider EI range (200-12800) with better low-light performance (dual native ISO 800/5000). Pick 8K if you're delivering 8K masters, doing heavy reframing, or shooting product/commercial work where 44.7 MP gives more pixel headroom. The 8K combo bundles RAW License Key, DL PZ 17-28mm lens, and PROSSD 1TB at a meaningfully lower combined cost than buying separately.
Will my existing cinema glass work?+
Yes, with the right mount unit. DL is native (six lenses available). Third-party mount units provide Leica L, Leica M, Sony E, and ARRI PL compatibility. ARRI PL covers most cinema lens collections including Cooke, Zeiss CP/Master Anamorphic, Tokina Cinema, and most rental-house glass. Sony E covers G Master, Sigma Art, Tamron, and most mirrorless cine lenses. The mount unit installs onto the X9 in seconds. Worth budgeting separately if your existing glass isn't DL.
Battery runtime in real production?+
DJI's stated 150 minutes is measured in still state with the gimbal balanced and Z-axis off, recording RAW. In practice — Z-axis active, monitor on, walking and running — expect 60-90 minutes per TB50 battery. A working day usually means 3-4 batteries plus the 86W charger. The TB50 charges to full in approximately 1.5 hours. Production tip: have batteries cycling on a charger throughout the shoot day.
Can I upgrade from 6K to 8K later?+
Yes. Buy the Zenmuse X9-8K Gimbal Camera separately, mount it on your existing Ronin 4D main body, and upgrade the firmware. The base body, monitors, hand grips, and accessories carry over. You'll need to also buy the RAW License Key separately (the 8K combo includes it; the upgrade path doesn't). Useful for productions that start with 6K delivery and later move to 8K masters.
