Horizontal to vertical.
No bracket. No tools.
The newly designed gimbal horizontal plate releases and secures vertically without additional accessories. Switch between 16:9 and 9:16 framing in seconds — practical for creators delivering both YouTube and Reels from a single shoot.
3 kg.
Extended tilt axis.
3 kg tested payload supports mainstream mirrorless (Sony A7 IV, Canon R6 II, Nikon Z6 III, Panasonic S5 II) with 24-70mm or 24-105mm zooms. Tilt axis extended by 8.5 mm versus RS 3 to accommodate larger lens combinations and on-camera accessories.
Zoom or gimbal.
Toggle.
New joystick mode switch toggles the joystick between gimbal movement and lens zoom control. Native zoom experience for compatible cameras (Power Zoom on PZ lenses, Clear Image Zoom on supported Sony bodies). Pair with Focus Pro Motor for true two-channel focus + zoom.
All three axes.
Reduced friction.
All three axis arms feature Teflon coating to reduce friction during balance adjustment. Fine-tuning knob on the tilt axis moves the camera forward and backward in millimetre increments. Net effect: faster setup, more reliable balance retention across battery and lens swaps.
Quick start.
Quick stow.
Second-generation automated axis locks engage on power-off and disengage on power-on. Smaller gaps when locked reduce shake during transit. Quick transition between active filming and stowed transport — important for run-and-gun shoots and cars where cases stay in the boot.
BG21 stock.
BG70 for endurance.
BG21 Battery Grip ships in the box, delivering 12 hours of stationary runtime. Optional DJI RS BG70 High-Capacity Battery Grip extends runtime to approximately 29.5 hours and adds 18W USB-C power output for the camera. Charges in 2.5 hours with 18W PD charger.

RS 3 vs RS 4.
RS 3
2022 generation
RS 4
2024 generation
Need to know.
Should I upgrade from RS 3?+
Worth it if you shoot vertical regularly — the 2nd-gen native vertical is a meaningful workflow win versus the RS 3's bracket workflow. Also worth it for the joystick zoom mode if you use PZ lenses or Clear Image Zoom. Less compelling if you shoot only horizontal and balance once per day — RS 3 remains capable.
RS 4 vs RS 4 Mini — which?+
RS 4 if your camera + lens combo is over 2 kg or you regularly use 24-70mm f/2.8 zooms. RS 4 Mini caps at 2 kg payload and 890 g gimbal weight — better for compact mirrorless setups (Sony A7C, Fujifilm X-S20) and travel use where size matters more than headroom.
Standalone vs Combo — what ships?+
Standalone includes the gimbal, BG21 Battery Grip, Quick-Release Plate (Arca-Swiss/Manfrotto), Extended Grip/Tripod (Plastic), Lens-Fastening Support, and cables. Combo adds Focus Pro Motor, Briefcase Handle, and Carrying Case. Combo saves the cost of these accessories versus buying separately.
Compatible with my older RS accessories?+
Most RS 3 and earlier RS series accessories work with RS 4 — Quick-Release plates, Briefcase Handle, Tethered Control Handle, Phone Holder, focus motors. The BG21 grip on RS 4 also works on RS 3, but BG21 does NOT work on RS 4 Pro (different battery interface).
